On February 7, our ACES team (formerly Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) earned third place at the regional ACES academic challenge competition. Under the guidance of moderator Mr. Scott Timmermann, students tested their knowledge in two of the following academic disciplines: biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics, and physics.
Team members were Alyssa Becker, Morgan Berndsen, Kata Bowen, Carly Etter, Justin Fritch, Matthew Fuehne, Taylor Goring, Max Harad, Wren Heiligenstein, Meredith Innes, Abby Kay, Blake Kloeckner, Lainey Kramer, Shannon Lampe, Jun Moon, Alden Moss, Maddie Schlimme, Troy Schroeder, Madeline Sullivan, Katie Toennies, Allison Von Bokel, Jacey Wieter, Nick Wolden, Lauren Wuebbels, and Aien Yu.
In addition, the following ACES team members earned individual recognition: Jun Moon (second in Math and Chemistry), Taylor Goring (second in Engineering Graphics), and Katie Toennies (second in Math and third in Engineering Graphics). Jun also received a six-credit-hour scholarship to Kaskaskia College, which he was awarded after earning fourth place overall.
Finally, we wish “good luck” to Jun, Taylor, and Katie, who will compete in the sectional ACES academic challenge competition March 8.
